Local Priorities Fly Tipping Update

Local Priorities Fly Tipping Update

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fly tipping, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

The illegal disposal of waste in unauthorized locations is known as fly-tipping and is a nuisance for residents across Hertsmere - it is the number one thing residents tell us about in the Priority Survey across Hertsmere.

Hertsmere Borough Council has web pages (copy and paste this link to your internet search box:

OR search online for Hertsmere Fly Tipping where you can learn more about how to contact the council if you find an illegal fly tip, and where to legitimately dispose of waste items and obtain a free pass to visit Household Waste sites across Hertfordshire.

If you spot fly tipping happening then ring Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101 (999 if it is an emergency). If the waste has already been dumped then contact Hertsmere Council on 020 8207 2277 or via their website.

Here are five reasons why we should not litter:

• Impact on Wildlife: Litter can harm animals by trapping or poisoning them, and it can also kill aquatic life through choking and water quality degradation.
• Costs of Cleaning Up: Littering incurs significant cleanup costs, which can burden local governments and taxpayers.
• Human Health and Safety: Litter can pose health risks, creating hazards in public spaces and potentially leading to injuries.
• Environmental Contamination: Litter can contaminate soil and water, leading to long-term environmental damage.
• Aesthetic Appeal: Litter detracts from the beauty of our surroundings, affecting community pride and tourism.

By reducing littering, we can protect wildlife, save money, enhance public health, and preserve our environment.
